12 Did Jesus say love others but hate your family

          Here's John vs Luke

                  In the Gospel of John:
                  Jesus commands his followers
                  to love one another.

But wait a sec!

In the Gospel of Luke:
Jesus commands his followers
                  to hate their family.



The Gospel of John says to love one another

John 13:34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

But the Gospel of Luke says hate your family and your life

Luke 14:26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother, and wife and children, and brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple."

The Greek word for “hate” there, means to detest or to reject. Now it’s not really very nice to oblige people to feel that way about their family much more hate their life.
